On 30th June 2011 the HR practice of VMA Group, in conjunction with Grant Thornton, hosted a lively roundtable discussion on the reward landscape. Held at Grant Thornton's offices in Manchester the VMA Group team were joined by a number of senior reward professionals from across the region representing businesses including BUPA, Kellogg, PZ Cussons and Kurt Salmon.
VMA Group believes that understanding the changing business environment in which clients operate is integral to excellent customer service. It is central to VMA Group's place in the recruitment market and holding events which bring people together to share best practice and discuss ideas is an important part of this. We identified a need at the start of the year to provide a local networking forum for reward professionals. Following research conducted earlier in the year with Grant Thornton, three key topics emerged as being key to the reward agenda.
- Pensions - company strategy in light of changing legislation
- The line manager's role in reward strategy
- The role of reward strategy in employee engagement
A lively and thought provoking conversation took place around each of these topics, focusing on cost, the implication for tax, overall business strategy and employee communication. Many "war stories" were exchanged and several ideas were generated with everyone greatly enjoying the opportunity to share ideas and network with their peers.
Head of VMA Group North's HR practice, Emma Flaherty commented:
"We are very pleased to have been able to host what will hopefully be the first of many reward roundtables. We have been delighted by the feedback we received and look to build on the success of this event at our next meeting which will be held in November."
