VMA Group drives its expansion plans with Board restructuring

- Expansion driven by increasing influence of communications professionals -

"The influence of professional communicators is getting stronger all the time," asserts Julia Meighan, Executive Chairman of the leading communications recruitment consultancy VMA Group.

"For years communicators have had to play second fiddle to marketers - often struggling to demonstrate the value of their work against the more tangible outcomes of marketing. Yet the way in which communicators have risen to the many challenges and opportunities of social media has been game-changing. Boards are now sitting up and taking notice. This is great news for the industry and it gives me even greater confidence in our business as we make plans for expansion," she says.

It is just one of the reasons VMA Group is looking to the future with optimism. In order to drive its expansion plans, the Group has restructured its board. Julia Meighan assumes the newly created role of Executive Chair and will spearhead the Group's international expansion, with support from the Global Practice Heads, as well as initiating special projects in talent management within the Corporate Communications profession.

VMA Group's ethos has always been to hire experienced communications practitioners to work as consultants and this is borne out in the make-up of the four-strong board and its 40 strong team. The board comprises:

• Claire Tuffin, who counts Associate Partner at international corporate communications agency, Brunswick and Head of Communications at Dairy Crest amongst her previous roles. Claire has been promoted to Group Managing Director, having full responsibility for the day to day running of the business across its specialist areas of Corporate Communications and Human Resources;

• Oskar Yasar, a former Citigate Dewe Rogerson senior consultant, who will retain his dual role of leading the Financial Services and Investor Relations teams both in the UK and globally;

and

• David Broome, who established the Group's thriving Internal Communications practice and will retain his role as head of that team.

VMA Group is proud of its reputation for innovation. Last year it pioneered a new professional development programme and a coaching service through VMA Enhance to better meet the development needs of its clients and candidates.

The next development for the Group is likely to be international expansion. With offices in London, Manchester, Brussels and a thriving partnership in Washington, VMA Group will continue to look for opportunities overseas.

Julia explains: "We have an unrivalled exportable expertise: British communications professionals are the most eagerly sought after around the world because English is the language of business. Moreover, the UK is seen as a centre of excellence in the recruitment industry. These two factors make for a powerful combination on a global stage."
